San Francisco’s
Central Subway

San Francisco is constructing a 1.9-mile light rail extension from 4th & King (the Giants Baseball Stadium, Caltrain Terminus) to Chinatown. I spent three months working with SFMTA in the summer of 2019, and I am currently working with EPC Consultants to bring this project to substantial completion.

This project was the first time I ever worked at a construction site, and even though my schooling had prepared me for similar work, I never realized the sheer complexity of such megaprojects. From owner-contractor relations to engineering submittals, I learned something new every single day.

My work included the processing of contract modification drawings, daily on-site inspections, design sketches, document deliveries, and meetings with the public. I had to interpret hundreds of engineering specifications, legal requirements, contractor notes, and employer requests into a list of what needs to be done next.

You can see the entire summer’s summary here.
