FLI Drive
An annual drive to restore gently used appliances and furniture for incoming First Generation, Low Income Students
FLI Drive, along with the Give & Go Drive, is Stanford’s annual move-out zero waste bonanza.
Residential & Dinning Enterprises, Students for a Sustainable Stanford, and the First-Generation Low-Income Partnership work together annually to select the most usable appliances and furnishings for storage for next year’s incoming First-Generation Low-Income (FLI) students. This gives new FLI students the opportunity to have the supplies they need to survive, succeed, and thrive in their first year, as well as reducing the school’s waste and disposal expenses. I have worked on the FLI Drive for three years now, and continue to help new leaders expand this program.
250+

Responsibilities
As student managers of the FLI Drive Program, we had to:
create advertising and marketing materials to encourage the proper donation and cleanup of eligible items in both undergraduate and graduate housing
create cleaning protocol and best practices, as well as gather supplies for workers
hire temporary student workers to clean and sanitize donated items during the end-of-the year collection
plan and execute a distribution program in the fall that will give items to new students equitably and fairly
transition the program to adapt to new move-out procedures due to COVID-19, ensuring the safety for both workers and donors
The complete list of responsibilities can be found in the FLI Drive Handbook (see downloads).
